Some DNS providers (including Cloudflare) support “CNAME flattening” — you can technically still enter a CNAME at the root and the provider handles it transparently. If their provider doesn’t support this, they’ll need an A record instead, pointed at Vercel’s current recommended IP — check Vercel’s domain settings page for the exact current value at the time, since this can change (this is exactly the kind of value that shouldn’t be hardcoded/assumed — always pull the current one from Vercel when this comes up).
